All the brothers were valiant, and all the sisters virtuous.
~From the inscription on the tomb of the Duchess of Newcastle
Newcastle Boxers is based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and is owned and run by Jennifer and Jeremy Walker. We are a small kennel, breeding a litter only every year or two (or, as has been the case recently, seven!). All of our Boxers are raised in our home, and are truly members of our family.
Jeremy's love for Boxers started years ago with his first Boxer, Zeus. Zeus lived to be 11 years old, and because of his wonderful companionship and personality, Jer insists on always having a Boxer in the house (or several of them!).
I never had a dog as a child - my sister was allergic to animals - so as soon as I bought my first home, I went looking for a puppy. Jer had his heart set on a fawn male - just like Zeus - and so he contacted Zeus' breeder, Ginger Johnson of Cameliard Boxers. I was hoping for a brindle, but really just wanted a DOG! Ginger had one puppy available - a brindle male - so we went to look at him. That one look was all we needed - Linus came running up to us when we walked in, and our hearts belonged to him. Jer even "overlooked" his coloring, and now actually prefers brindles.
The name "Newcastle" has a double meaning for us. In Arthurian legend, Cameliard is the castle city ruled by Guenevere's father. Since Ginger had given us so much guidance and support (as she continues to do), we thought a "new castle" was appropriate. As well, my grandfather was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the north of England (featured, at sunset, in our header); both he and my grandmother were a constant source of love, support, and encouragement throughout my life, and it seemed fitting to honor them in this way.
As of July 2005, Newcastle is an AKC Registered Kennel Name.
